A Suite, From Sixteen

“I have always dreamed about being a star.”

Here is a marvelous project out of Bellaire High School, in Ohio: pictures made mostly in a documentary style with a touch of PostSecret in the captions. It’s “The All-American Town.”

Read about the photographers and their mentors: https://www.washingtonpost.com/photography/2019/07/23/although-only-high-school-these-photographers-have-crafted-stunning-account-their-lives-appalachian-ohio/?utm_term=.a85ec2a78baf

“I have learned to be strong when there is no other option.”

There was a physical publication; watch this space for another run of the zine: https://oionline.z2systems.com/np/clients/oionline/product.jsp?product=69&

“If I could go back in time, I would tell myself that things will get better.”

“I keep to myself but love people through difficult times.”

Identify for yourself each piece on display.

Which piece(s) hold the wall best from a distance? Which is/are most rewarding upon close inspection?

Which is a picture you would do differently; how? (This is not meant to be “advice” to the maker.)

Which picture makes logical or surprising use of the space within the frame?

Think of something you can say about your own pictures that will help the rest of us to appreciate them, or to understand them better.

Let’s Get Negative

Are you on my one of my rosters? I’ll pop for 11×14 or 16×20 paper if you make a pinhole camera big enough to use it.

…little bits of business to begin the academic year: Space Time Continuum

Our Expanding Campus

The Heart Department has been reinventing and renovating its webbed pages for your delectation, adding “slide shows” of engaging work from this year and the previous two years. Nothing is in its final form, and selections will probably change as time goes by.

For some reason, that last display seems a little too… I dunno… caffeinated? I’m sure we’ll find a way to slow it down.

Un Coin

For the rookies’ first project, here are some unique solutions to the prompt of describing a space.

“For a knowledge of intimacy, localization in the spaces of our intimacy is more urgent than determination of dates.”
